Join the Florida State University University Symphony Orchestra for our opening night concert!

The program includes:

➢ Sokol Fanfare, by Leoš Janáček
➢ Flashes of Light, by Ladislav Kubik (World Premiere)
➢ Symphony No. 9 in C Major, “The Great” by Franz Schubert

Flashes of Light is a new work written by Florida State University College of Music Professor of Composition and eminent Czechoslovakian composer, Ladislav Kubik. In his program notes, Kubik describes the inspiration of this piece to come from “the deep history and symbolism of the trumpet.” The trumpet, throughout history, has been used as a way to deliver both bad and good news as well as triumphs and tragedies. The work features Barbara Butler, trumpet professor from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and Florida State University’s own, Christopher Moore.
